ROCKVILLE, Md. (Gray News) – Officials said a dog was responsible for alerting and saving the occupants of a home that caught fire in Maryland.

The fire started on April 15 in the basement of a single-family home on Green Pasture Drive in Rockville, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer.

Piringer said everyone made it out of the home after the dog alerted the people inside before the smoke alarms were activated.

The family told WUSA their dog named Molly started “banging on the doors with her paws” to let them know something was wrong.

The family was displaced from the home as a result of the fire, but nobody was injured.

According to Piringer, the neighborhood was experiencing a power outage when the electrical fire started.

Damage costs were estimated to be over $200,000.

Approximately 45 county firefighters responded to the scene.
