CRAIG COUNTY, Va. – Local first responders are proving that their life-saving skills are needed in all kinds of situations, like rescues involving our pets.
Video shared on Facebook shows a regional technical rescue team pulling a wet dog out of a deep hole in a wooded, rural area of Craig County Monday.
Crews were on site for several hours, using a harness and rope to ‘fetch’ the furry companion back to safety.
“We don’t often respond to things like this,” said Brian Cligenpeel, community outreach coordinator for Roanoke Co. Fire and Rescue. “...It’s a very specialized type of rescue it can be very dangerous.”
“It’s a lot of training, it’s a lot of equipment...It gives us a chance to use our skills and get even more proficient at what we do,” he said.
As you can imagine, the dog’s owner was extremely grateful for their help.
